Opening lecture of the digital crime forensics panel at the 5th Congresso Nacional de Direito Digital (national digital law congress, 2021), in which forensic expert Adriano Vallim addresses the preservation of evidence and the establishment of authorship in crimes committed online. He covers the most common attack vectors, the difficulties the Marco Civil da Internet (Brazil's internet framework act) imposes on lifting telematic confidentiality, and technical aspects such as IP addresses, logical ports and time zones, where errors of interpretation can lead to innocent people being accused. The talk includes real cases of correlating information and eliminating false positives when identifying the offender, along with practical digital security recommendations.
